Beersheba-Living Well is a not-for-profit community organisation which provides peer support for BAMER (Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Refugee) people and Adults from lower soci-economic groups living with or at greater risk of type 2 diabetes
A team of expert patients and qualified health practioners with lived-experience of type 2 diabetes and other long-term health conditions will offer basic health information and guidance. Aimed at empowering patients and residents to set achievable goals and develop healthier behaviours.
To embed preventative and supportive features in the design and delivery of our services to reduce the incidences of diabetes and diabetes complications e.g., stroke, blindness, premature mortality etc. Empowering people to better manage their own health needs in equal partnership with healthcare professionals to support outcomes for health and well-being and live independently.
"I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes over 20 years ago. During the 1990's community based support for Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic (BAME) people with type 2 diabetes was virtually non existent for residents of London borough Hackney. The challenges linked with inner-city living, poor weight management, work/life issues, family history of diabetes etc., placed me at greater risk of and indeed eventually gave way to type 2 diabetes.
Very limited access to patient education fuelled the detrimental progression of the disease which culminated in diabetes complications. Over time, lifestyle changes and improved access to health information enabled me to achieve small but achievable goals that supported healthier behaviours.
We provide half day workshops, weekly group supported learning programs and one-to-one mentoring sessions to explore key issues such as healthy foods and nutrition, physical exercise, health management etc.
Whatever your interests or circumstance are in the subject of diabetes, whether you are a family member of a patient with the disease, pre-diabetic, newly diagnosed or living with the disease for many years etc., you are warmly invited to join our Diabetes Support Network.
Regular meetings are informal with good opportunities to socialise and learn from others facing similar health challenges. If you are interested in becoming a member we would love to hear from you.

We are seeking to recruit and train a bank of volunteers with relevant experiences of type 2 diabetes who will act as diabetes mentors, buddies and champions. To positively influence and add value to the lives of those within their sphere of influence by advancing peer support across diverse communities in Hackney and surrounding areas.
